The Master of Science in Sustainability of the University of the Philippines Visayas Graduate School (UPV GS) has been favorably evaluated for inclusion under the Department of Science and Technology’s Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (DOST-ASTHRDP). The curriculum program, one of the newest offerings of the UPV GS, is now among the accredited programs through which eligible students may apply for government-funded graduate scholarships.

The ASTHRDP is one of DOST’s flagship scholarship programs, providing financial support to Filipino graduate students enrolled in priority science and technology disciplines at accredited Philippine universities. Inclusion in the program is a significant milestone for the MS in Sustainability, as it widens access to the degree for students who may otherwise be unable to pursue graduate education due to financial constraints.

The MS in Sustainability at UPV GS began accepting students in the First Trimester of AY 2025–2026, following the program’s formal approval in November 2024. It is designed as an interdisciplinary program that prepares graduates to address complex sustainability challenges across environmental, social, and policy dimensions — areas closely aligned with DOST’s national science and technology agenda.

With this recognition, UPV GS reaffirms its commitment to making quality graduate education more accessible, while contributing to the nation’s growing pool of sustainability professionals equipped to drive evidence-based solutions to the Philippines’ most pressing environmental and development challenges.
